Using and Creating Maps to Record your Tracks
Whether you are doing tracking/trailing with your dog or you just want to document the path you took, the Dogteampro mapping feature allows you to draw or use your gps on your phone to track your path on a map.
There are 2 types of maps you can create:
- A decoy map - The path of the track layer
- A handler map - The path of K9 handler team
Note: Handler maps can have a decoy map overlayed on top so you can see the track layer's path as you go.
Both types of maps can be created using the gps on your mobile phone, or drawn from the web version.
Create or attach a map
There are three ways to create a map:
- From the "maps" screen. Click on "maps" on your top tool bar and then click on "create map".
You can choose whether to create a handler map or decoy map by toggling between the two options on the top left of your new map.
Inside the map you can …
- Add Marker - A marker is any item you want to add to show the location of a key component in a training or deployment using a selection of icons, for example to indicate the location of evidence, a person or a vehicle.
- Draw a Track - This feature allows you to draw the planned training exercise route and the dog’s actual results during a training, and the route the dog or person took during a deployment after the event has occurred. To draw a track, place your mouse on the starting point and hold down the mouse as you draw the track.
- Start a GPS Track - Allows you to capture the route of the device while following the dog or person in real-time during a training or deployment. To start, make sure the program has access to your device’s GPS and click "start". To stop the GPS track just click the stop button.
- From a training or deployment log. Go to the exercise or activity you want to attach a map to, click on "attach map" and then click "create new map"
Note: Only handler maps can be added to training or deployment logs.
- From the mobile app. Click on the "create" button on the bottom tool bar of the mobile app and choose "map".
Add a Decoy Overlay
Once you have a handler map started, you can "overlay" the decoy map at any time by clicking "Add decoy trail" and selecting the decoy map you want to overlay.
Add Handler Map to a Training or Deployment log
From a training log, click "attach map" on the exercise you want to add a map to.
From here, you can either search for an existing handler map using the K9 and date filters, or create a new map.
Note: Removing a map from a log does not delete the map. To delete the map, you have to delete from the maps page.
